The 7 top tips that will stop your sunless tanned skin from looking like a lizard!

The time has arrived for you to shed you layers of winter clothes and reveal your beautiful bare skin. I know what you’re thinking yes I may look a little pale, but I’m just going to slap on some fake tan and I’ll look as good as new again. But we’re here to tell you to STOP!! STOP!! STOP!! Don’t apply any tanning lotion or spray tan until you read this first….!!

Applying sunless tan to poorly prepared skin is like applying lipstick to dry, cracked lips… And we know that is just not a pretty sight to see. So make note of these tips as these can make the difference between looking like a bronzed babe or a pealing lizard.

Wax or shave before applying your sunless tan: Waxing or shaving your legs is a very good way of removing your dry skin cells. Also, by doing this before you apply your sunless tan you won’t have to worry about this for the next few weeks and you can rest assured that your sunless tan will look even and vibrant. Sadly, if you decide to wax or shave your legs after you’ve applied your tanning lotion or spray tan – we guarantee your tan will be removed at the same time, leaving your skin looking very dry and patchy – Not a good look. Exfoliate, exfoliate, and exfoliate: Using a gentle exfoliates, concentrate on exfoliating all of your skin from head to toe. Mix the exfoliate with a little water and apply onto your skin in a circular motion. This removes dirt and dry skin, leaving your skin looking clean and clear. As your tanning lotion and spray tan will be applied on your face, arms, hands, chest, legs and feet make sure you exfoliate each area carefully. Depending on how dry your skin is, you may need to repeat this exfoliation process over 2-3 days or until your skin has returned to its normal condition. Step 2: Remove dry skin cells and cleanse your skin - Exfoliate.

Balance pH: During the exfoliation phase, don’t use any harsh scrubs/ soaps that will strip your skin of its natural pH balance. The best way to have that perfect tan, is for your skin to look and feel great before you even apply your sunless tan. Step 3: Make sure you select an exfoliate which will balance your pH, not strip it dry.

Moisturize: Now this process may vary from person to person; If your skin is already perfectly hydrated and conditioned, then you could eliminate this step and go straight on to applying your tanning lotion or spray tan… however if you’ve just come out of the winter, you may need a few days of exfoliation and deep hydrating moisturizing for your skin to gain its natural radiance once again. Step 4: Give your skin back its hydration - Moisturize

OK…. So up to this point, we’ve simply been preparing your skin, this process could have taken you one day or one week… It doesn’t really matter how long it took, it only matters that now your skin is in tip top condition and ready for your tanning lotion or spray tan. Remember the better condition your skin is before you apply your sunless tan, the better your skin will look once it is bronze.

Shower before applying your sunless tan: When your tanning lotion or spray tan is applied on your skin, the active ingredients in your sunless tan work at their very best when there are no barriers (such as moisturizers, perfumes or deodorants) between them and your skin. A quick shower will remove any barriers between you and your perfect tan. Step 5: Only apply tanning lotion or spray tan to clean skin - have a quick shower

Perfumes/ deodorants: You’ve just had your shower, but it’s still not time to apply your deodorant and perfumes… these too, act like a barrier between your skin and the active tanning agents. If for example, you’ve just applied some perfume to your neck, chest and wrists and then go to a salon for a spray tan… You may be unpleasantly surprised once your tan has developed and you notice unsightly patches in those areas. Step 6: do not apply perfume or deodorant before applying your sunless tan.

Moisturize dry areas: Some people may have incredibly dry heels, elbows, toes and finger knuckles and others may not. In either case, it is important to know that the active ingredients in your tanning lotion and/or spray tan are drawn to dry patchy skin and can sometimes sit unnaturally on these areas. To make sure your tan looks even and natural; apply the smallest amount of moisturizer to these dry, trouble spots. It may sound like a contradiction to the earlier point, about removing any barriers to your skin; however our experiences from years in the salon have taught us that the tiniest amount of moisturizer of dry/ trouble spots like heels, elbows, toes and finger knuckles will prevent the tan soaking into those areas. Your skin will still tan here, but it will look light and natural, as opposed to patchy and very fake. Step 7: Moisturize your driest parts.

And that’s it… By following this seven step guide, we GUARANTEE your sunless tan will develop so much more beautifully and naturally, than compared to if you had just opened your tanning lotion or went to a salon for a spray tan without any preparation at all.

okay so i need some new makeup for school, i wanna know what kinds are the best that you guys like and think work the most--

-concelier
-foundation
-somethign to hide your pimples
-bronzer

i need something really good to hide my pimples, ihave one of those cover up things that look like a lipstick ya know, but that doens't work that well, whats somethign that looks really good on the face and covers everything up, but yet has that bronze tone you can add to it? besides like the bare minerals stuff?

concealer is meant to hide blemishes and your pimples. for maximum coverage you should use a thick concealer...therefore a cream concealer would be ideal. apply it with a concealer brush and blend it out well. makeupforever makes a really great concealer palette with different colors for different things (i.e. redness, undereye circles etc). here's the link to see it http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P119706&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=4028 its hard to buy online if you havent tried it in person so i recommend getting it in-store.

if youre looking for makeup for school i'd recommend something very simple. foundation etc. with bronzer if you'd like and a simple eye.

foundation etc shouldn't have a bronze tone. if you'd like that look then you use bronzer. personally i don't think it looks good past summer, i think darker more red tones are more appropriate for fall/winter. but thats upto you.

brands are a personal choice. different brands work for different people. personally i'm a mac girl. but i know girls who hate mac foundation etc.

i always recommend to girls on here not to depend on getting foundation from answers. the best way is to go to a MUA (like at MAC or another booth in a department store or Sephora or a store similar to that) and tell them your skin type and how much coverage you'd like. depending on your budget, you can either buy from their store or use their advice and go to the drugstore and buy similar items they've shown you.

if you've got sensitive skin though, i think you should at least check out clinique.
